Complementary Shaders is a high-performance shader pack for Minecraft Java Edition known for its meticulous attention to detail, superior quality, and excellent optimization. The pack is designed to never interfere with gameplay. Originally a modification of BSL Shaders in 2018, it has undergone numerous major updates, including a complete code rewrite to align with community expectations. Development is driven primarily by user feedback, and the pack continues to receive regular updates.

Choose Your Visual Style

Complementary Shaders offers two default visual styles that differ only in their presets. The Unbound style aims for a more realistic look, while the Reimagined style preserves Minecraft’s unique aesthetic while enhancing it. All settings are fully customizable via the Shader Options menu, allowing you to mix features—for example, using blocky clouds with Unbound or realistic water with Reimagined.

How to Install Complementary Shaders for Minecraft Java Edition

Quick Installation (New): Download the Complementary Installer and run it. The installer automatically performs all the steps below.

1. Install the Iris mod to enable shaderpack loading.
2. Launch Minecraft and navigate to Video Settings > Shaderpacks/Shaders menu.
3. Open the shaderpacks folder using the button in that menu.
4. Download Complementary Shaders and place the file into the shaderpacks folder. Do not unzip the file.
5. Return to the game and select Complementary from the shaderpacks list. Refresh the menu if it does not appear immediately.
