Description

Towns and Towers expands on Mojang’s 1.14 update. The mod adds new villages, pillager outposts, and ships. All structures are detailed yet blend naturally into the world, with many inspired by real‑world architecture.

Currently the mod contains 56 structures (as of patch 1.9). These include villages, three types of outposts (towers, forts, camps), three ships, and one secret structure.

Top 3 reasons to try Towns and Towers

  1. Over 50 new structures — villages, outposts, and ships with unique designs.
  2. Compatibility with popular mods — Terralith, Biomes O’ Plenty, and others add exclusive buildings.
  3. Works on servers — the mod is server‑side, no client installation required.

Features

  • Villages — house more villagers than vanilla villages. Almost every village has all professions. Bells, cats, and iron golems are present.
  • Pillager Outposts — now larger and more dangerous. More loot and more pillagers. Forts have 2 allays, towers have 1, camps have 0.
  • Ships — villager fleet, pillager galleon, and wreckage. Spawn in deep ocean and regular ocean biomes.
  • Exclusive Structures — when mods like Terralith, Biomes O’ Plenty, and others are installed, unique villages and outposts are added.
  • Server‑Side Only — does not need to be installed on the client.
  • Configuration — since update 1.10, a config file is available at .minecraft/config/towns_and_towers. You can disable structures or change their rarity.

What’s New

The latest major update is patch 1.9, which added 56 structures including a secret one. From version 1.19.3 onward, the mod depends on CristelLib. Development for version 1.18.2 is on hold, though a larger update may be released later.

Integration with mods such as Guard Villagers, Waystones, Farmer’s Delight, and others is planned. Some are already ready (Guard Villagers, Fabric waystones).

How to Install Towns and Towers Mod for Minecraft

  1. Download the mod from CurseForge or Modrinth for your Minecraft version (1.18.2, 1.19.x, or 1.20.x).
  2. Install Forge or Fabric for that version.
  3. For versions 1.19.3 and later, also install CristelLib.
  4. Place the .jar file in the mods folder.
  5. Launch the game — structures will appear in newly generated chunks.

Version Availability and Development Status

Towns and Towers is currently available for both Forge and Fabric on Minecraft 1.18.2 and 1.19 (.1 & .2). The mod works entirely server-side. Starting from version 1.19.3 and up to 1.20.4, the pack requires CristelLib as a dependency but remains server-side only.

There are no plans to backport the mod to versions earlier than 1.18.2. Development on the 1.18.2 branch is temporarily paused; a large update similar to update 1.9 may be released at a later date. Juggling multiple versions slows progress, and real-life priorities also take precedence. Thank you for your understanding.

Towns and Towers [1.21.11] [1.21.10] [1.21.8]

Overview of Towns and Towers – New Villages, Outposts, and Ships

Towns & Towers builds upon the 1.14 structure overhaul by introducing over 50 custom villages, pillager outposts, and ships. Each structure features more detail than the vanilla equivalents while blending naturally into the world. Many designs draw inspiration from real-world architecture and styles, giving exploration a fresh feel. As of update 1.9, the mod offers a wide variety of new points of interest to discover – remember, the journey matters as much as the destination.

Compatibility with Other Mods – Towns and Towers

Towns and Towers is generally compatible with most mods, though features from other mods may not appear in T&T structures by default. Below are the main compatibility categories.

  • World generation mods
The mod works seamlessly with major worldgen mods such as Terralith, Biomes O’ Plenty, Oh The Biomes You’ll Go, and others. Not only will T&T structures spawn in vanilla and modded biomes, but exclusive structures become available when these mods are installed—examples include Mediterranean villages, Pillager vineyards, Wandering Trader camps, and pre-1.14 villages. No extra compatibility packs are needed. Keep in mind that not all worldgen mods work well together, so choose carefully.
  • Mods that add new structures
T&T is compatible with other structure mods like Repurposed Structures, When Dungeons Arise, ChoiceTheorem’s Overhauled Villages, and mods that modify vanilla villages or loot tables. Overlapping may occur if too many structure mods are loaded without adjustments.
  • Mods that modify existing structures
At present, T&T villages do not include features from mods such as Guard Villagers, Bountiful, or Waystones. Those features remain present in vanilla villages. We plan to follow TelepathicGrunt’s approach and create compatibility datapacks in the future. If you have suggestions for mods that need integration, let us know.

Village, Pillager Outpost, and Ship Structure Details

1. Villages

Villages in Towns and Towers align closely with vanilla mechanics. Almost every village includes all professions, with a few exceptions. Town centers feature bells, cats, and iron golems like vanilla. Loot comes from vanilla loot tables for each profession’s chests, and most normal house chests also use vanilla tables. Villages contain a few more villagers than vanilla counterparts, so pre-generating your world is recommended to avoid lag when entering one.

2. Pillager Outposts

Outposts received the most dramatic overhaul. They are larger, more threatening, and contain significantly more loot and pillagers. Outposts fall into three categories: towers, forts, and camps. The number of pillagers varies by type, but loot remains consistent across all—standard pillager outpost loot plus extra items, making them far more rewarding. Each outpost spawns with a pillager captain (usually at the top) on first generation, so proceed with caution.

As of patch 1.8, allays are placed at fixed counts per outpost type:

  • 2 allays — fort outposts
  • 1 allay — tower outposts
  • 0 allays — camp outposts

Pillagers still spawn around outposts, with rates adjusted based on the structure’s size.

3. Ships

Have you ever wondered where all those shipwrecks came from? Now you know: villages and outposts are not the only structures at sea. Three ship-related structures appear in the overworld oceans:

Villager fleet (deep ocean biomes except for frozen and warm biomes)
Pillager Galleon (deep ocean biomes except for frozen and warm biomes)
Flotsam / Wreckage (normal ocean biomes except frozen biomes)

What Players Ask

Is it safe to add Towns and Towers to an existing world?

Yes, but new structures only appear in unexplored chunks. Make backups first.

What Minecraft versions are supported?

1.18.2, 1.19.1-1.19.2 (Forge/Fabric) and 1.19.3 up to 1.20.4 (requires CristelLib).

Does it work on servers?

Yes, it works serverside. Only the server needs the mod installed.

Can I include this mod in my modpack?

Sure, just give credit and link to the mod page.

How do I find new structures?

Use /locate towns_and_towers:[structure_name] (for 1.18.2) or /locate structure towns_and_towers:[structure_name] (for 1.19+).
